5 Reasons Why Misha Green Is One to Watch

For years, Black people have been demanding new stories, where they are depicted in a positive light in all genres. There has been a push for more representation of the Black culture. With content creators like Lena Waithe, Issa Rae, Jordan Peele and Misha Green that call has been answered.

After graduating from the New York University Tisch School Of The Arts, Green has written on a multitude of shows and branded herself as someone to keep an eye on. Here are five reasons that Misha Green is definitely one to watch.

Creator of “The Underground” and “Lovecraft Country”

Green’s first two major projects have been a huge success. Both projects showcase Black people in a powerful position despite their circumstances. “The Underground” is a period drama about the Underground Railroad set primarily in the Antebellum South and bordering free states of the North. “Lovecraft Country'' is a genre-bending showcase of the Black experience in Chicago during the 1950s that follows the story of Atticus Freeman in his search for his father. Although these shows were prematurely cancelled to the dismay of many fans, they introduced the world to her extraordinary talent.

Her Apple+ Deal

Following an intense bidding process, Green signed a multi-year overall deal with Apple. This provides her the platform to create and develop television projects for the streaming service. If her first two television shows are any indication of what is to come, then viewers are in for a wild ride.

Upcoming Movie Projects

In addition to her Apple+ multi-year deal, Green is set to make her directorial debut with “Tomb Raider 2.” She is also producing Warner Brothers’ “Cleopatra Jones,” Makeready’s “The Gilded Ones” and a film that she wrote called “The Mother,” which will premiere on Netflix.

Black Woman Creative

Green is a Sacramento, California, born Black woman who is using her talent to not only talk about the hardships of African-American people, but also showcase them in positions of power. In an era where Black women are demanding more respect in every industry, Green is paving the way for more Black women in film.

Creative Range

As shown through “Lovecraft Country,” which combined the genres of science fiction, historical, drama, psychological thriller and horror into one show, Green is not tied to one specific genre. Her creativite range is boundless. Her talent allows her to produce mind-blowing content for viewers regardless of the genre.
