7 Black Tech Women Influencers Who Inspire Us

Diversity is needed in all industry’s especially the tech industry. According to the National Center For Women and Information Technology study, black women make up 3% in tech. That doesn’t stop black women from breaking that barrier and making a change. Check out these seven black women who inspire us and are tech influencers.

Kimberly Bryan @6gems

Kimberly is the founder and executive director of Black Girls Code and her career has spanned roles ranging from Biotechnology to Engineering to Technical Project Management. She’s a champion of inclusion and diversity and was the White House’s Champion of Change in 2014.

Joy Ofodu @joyofodu

Her mission in life is to empower on/offline communities. She currently works at Instagram as an Associate Brand Marketing Manager, where she focuses on community engagement and representation in global campaigns.

Adepeju Jaiyeoba @pjlalah 

She is a Nigerian social entrepreneur and activist who created the Brown Button Foundation as well as Mother's Delivery Kit which creates low-cost health care options and delivery kits containing basic sterile supplies for expectant mothers in Nigeria.

Aerica Shimizu Banks @erikashimizu

Her work creates diversity, equity, and inclusion in tech, the law, and entrepreneurship. She advocates for women entrepreneurs by building communities of support and empowerment. Her approach is creative, intersectional, and holistic; shaped by my expertise in community organizing, policy, and tech.

April Speight @VogueandCode

The founder of Computer Club (www.joincomputerclub.com) and she provides basic coding lessons on her YouTube channel with a focus on Python. She is currently authoring a children’s Python programming book that will be published by Wiley Publishing and available for purchase (Barnes and Noble, Amazon) July 2020.

Arielle Hale @NerdNomadMom

A 30-year-old business owner (marketing, automation, & business scaling consultant, former project manager), tech COO, and mom! Tech has also been her passion and she recently transitioned into the industry from digital marketing. Her interests include Data Science, DevOps, Cloud Architecture, AI, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and Cyber Security.

Ananda Leeke: @anandaleeke

Ananda serves as the Chief Social Media Officer at the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council. Her digital communications career was born during her tenure at the Hamilton Securities Group, Inc., a mission-driven investment bank and financial software firm that represented the Federal Housing Administration and launched a data servicing startup in public housing in Washington, DC.
