Lindsay People Wagner Named New Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue
Teen Vogue has a new change in leadership: Come Oct. 18, Lindsay Peoples Wagner will join the lucrative Condé Nast title as editor-in-chief. She succeeds current Chief Content Officer, and Condé Nast wunderkind Phillip Picardi (who also holds the same title at LGBTQ+ platform Them) as he departs the publishing giant to become editor-in-chief of Out Magazine.
Peoples Wagner — whose work is renowned for her fashion- and beauty-focused takes on culture, race and politics — comes to Teen Vogue from New York Magazine's The Cut, where she's served as fashion editor since 2015. In 2017, while at The Cut, she won the ASME Next award honoring outstanding achievement by magazine journalists under the age of 30.
"Lindsay is a gifted talent who can equally inspire and challenge her audiences," said Anna Wintour, Condé Nast artistic director and Vogue editor-in-chief, in a statement. "She brings a sophistication and fresh perspective to the cultural moments and social themes that activate our Teen Vogue readers and we are very excited to have her back at Condé Nast."
Peoples Wagner's latest Teen Vogue appointment is something of a homecoming: Her fashion career began in the fashion closet at Teen Vogue, under Amy Astley, and she also later worked at the publication as a fashion market assistant.
"As a former intern and assistant at Teen Vogue, I'm so excited to come full circle and be back at a time when there is nothing more powerful or important than a young person who is passionate about change," said Peoples Wagner. "I'm looking forward to our coverage – whether it be on fashion, politics, celebrities or beauty – being both necessary and dynamic to cultural conversations."
Despite Teen Vogue shuttering its print edition in Nov. 2017, the magazine has maintained sizable momentum across the media, with a reported 9 percent year-over-year increase in unique visitors per month, as well as a 37 percent year-over-year jump in social media consumers. Teen Vogue's upcoming Teen Vogue Summit, headlined by Serena Williams, is planned for Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Los Angeles.
